How to play Bridge
- Four players in two partnerships — you are South, and North across from you is your partner. East and West are opponents. Everyone gets 13 cards.
- Play goes in 'tricks': each player lays down one card, and the highest card wins that trick for their side. There are 13 tricks per hand.
- You MUST follow the suit that was led if you can (if hearts are led, you must play a heart if you have one). The highest card of the led suit wins…
- …unless there's a trump suit — a trump card beats any card of another suit, even an Ace. 'No Trump' (NT) means no trumps, so highest of the led suit simply wins.
- One side is 'declarer' and must win a target number of tricks (the contract). Make it to score; miss it and the other side scores.
Controls. On your turn, tap a highlighted (legal) card to play it. When you're declarer, you also play your partner's hand (the face-up 'dummy').
Scoring
We use Mini-Bridge: the computer counts each side's high cards (Ace=4, King=3, Queen=2, Jack=1) and sets the contract for you, so you can focus on playing the cards well. Make your contract and you come out ahead.
Strategy tips
- Never waste a high card when your partner is already winning the trick — play low and save it.
- Lead from your longest suit to set up winners once the opponents run out.
- If you have no cards of the led suit and there's a trump, playing a trump WINS the trick.
